From Royal Safavid Scribes to a Living Heritage Mansion
The chronicle of Ghasr Monshi begins in one of Isfahan’s most ancient quarters, adjacent to the historic Hasanabad Gate. Historical chronicles and early European travelogues—notably the accounts of Jean Chardin—trace the estate’s foundations to Mirza Razi, the distinguished Monshi-ol-Mamalek (Royal Chief Scribe) at the court of Shah Abbas the Great during the Safavid Golden Age. Across subsequent centuries, the estate evolved through the late Zand and Qajar dynasties as the ministerial residence of the court scribes (Monshi-Bashi). Following years of meticulous archival conservation, the mansion preserves its original brick vaults, plaster muqarnas, and vibrant stained glass, welcoming world travelers into an authentic living residence rather than a static museum.
